What should I bear in mind when arriving in Grossarl?

The motorway tax sticker rule in Austria, in force on all motorways. You can buy the sticker at lots Austrian petrol stations and service areas, especially near the border. Oh yes, and unlike in some other countries, winter tyres are compulsory in winter (note: all-season tyres are not sufficient!) It’s the law. Depending on the weather, snow chains can also come in handy, even if the Austrian road patrols are really good. We have published tips for your journey to the Alte Post here.

Do you have hire bikes?

You can hire e-bikes and non-electric mountain bikes from our partner Sport 2000, 300 metres down the road, with a nice discount voucher from us. It is best to book your hire (e-)bikes before you arrive or at the latest when you check in. Just get in touch at info@altepost.cc or on phone +43 6414 207.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

  • Check-in: Your room is available from 2:00 p.m.!
  • A small request: If you plan to arrive later than 5 p.m., please let us know on tel. +43 6414 207 so that we can talk about your evening meal.
  • Tip: To check in, please park in the check-in car park directly in front of the hotel, leave your luggage in the car and come to the reception without any suitcases or bags. We will then show you which car park is best for you to park in - depending on whether you are staying in Haus Maria or Haus Toni.
  • Check-out: On the day of departure, please vacate your room by 10:00 a.m. You are welcome to settle your bill the evening before so that you can be ready to leave as soon as possible on the morning of your departure.

What does luxury board include? What else do you need to know?

A very important question ;) Do you like to eat as much as we do? In the morning, you can tuck in at the breakfast buffet between 07:30 and 10:00. In the evening, the five-course menu which you can compile yourself and always has a vegetarian selection is included in your room price. We are happy to implement vegan dishes and cater for special allergy requirements; please let us know when booking so that we can plan. If the additional work required due to allergies and intolerances is excessive, we reserve the right to apply a surcharge. We thank you very much for your understanding. If you do not want to take up the offer of Toni’s delicious Alpine cuisine in Die Alpenkocherei, you can also book an overnight stay with breakfast (without dinner) for €25,- less per adult/night. Please contact us by phone on tel. +43 6414 207.

Maybe you would like to come to our s’Wirtshaus and try Toni’s tavern delicacies there, or look for a cosy place on the terrace or in the fireplace lounge for Maria’s cake creations (each for an additional charge).

The hotel bar is open all day. Here you can pick any drink you fancy, from a morning coffee to a nightcap.

Where exactly is the Alte Post?

Bullseye! The Alte Post is right in the middle of Grossarl in the Grossarl Valley. All around you will find a playground a bakery, a small supermarket and other shops, our partner Sport 2000 is 300 metres down the street. The Grossarl parish church looks down on us, and yes, the bells ring at 6 a.m.! Instead of being surprised (or even annoyed) about it, share in our gratitude that our village traditions are still alive. That’s why you have come to Grossarl, isn’t it? And then you can turn over with great relish and go back to sleep...

The ski bus stops right outside the front door, every 15 minutes. In just 3 minutes, you are at the valley station of the cable car. And in summer, if you want to go hiking and biking, many hiking trails and mountain bike tours start directly from the Alte Post.

On the Advent weekends, you stumble practically straight from the Alte Post to the tranquil Christmas market in our alleyways - and after a few tours of the market, you will be ready for bed ;) Our location in the town centre is something that our guests love, even when it’s time for church processions, such as at Easter or Corpus Christi. Then the brass band marches between Haus Maria and Haus Toni and you will feel that you are really part of it! There’s the resounding brass sound and the beat of the drums, but there’s more to it than that! You want to come here to get to know the real mountains, don’t you?

Are dogs welcome at the Alte Post?

Yes, of course, for €15 per night (without food), except in the restaurants, in the indoor pool and in the pine spa. Please bring everything your four-legged friend needs with you, e.g. food, bowls, dog blanket, dog waste bags, toys etc.. Please note that we reserve the right to charge a special cleaning fee of €100. Thank you!

Where can I park?

During your stay, you can park your car in our outdoor car park for free. Depending on whether you live in Haus Maria or Haus Toni, we will show you your parking space. If arriving in an electric car, you can charge it at our KW type 2 e-charging station (for a surcharge).

Can you buy ski passes in the Alte Post?

Yes! Just drop by the reception. Then you can sit by the fireplace and enjoy a glass while we’re getting them ready... instead of getting cold feet waiting in a queue outside ;) We think it’s a win-win for you, because you can get the ski passes from us at the same price as at the cable car ticket office.

Does the Alte Post have skis for hire?

No, sorry! But you can find everything you need right next to the valley station, and you can store the skis and boards you have hired there overnight in the sports shops.

Where is the ski storage room? And the bike garage?

You will find the ski storage room in the cellar of Haus Maria. A practical outside staircase leads inside, so there is no need to ruin Maria’s well-kept floors in the hotel with your ski boots ;).

In summer we convert the ski storage room into a bike garage. Here you can park the bikes you bring from home. Please bring bike locks with you.

When are the swimming pool and pine spa open?

The indoor pool is open from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

For the sake of the environment, we don't heat the stone pine spa when nobody is in the hotel. Please let us know at reception whether we can activate the spa for you at 4 p.m. (of course earlier if you wish).

You can enjoy massages between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Can you tell us your desired date yet? Then we can organize everything.
Simply at info@altepost.cc or by phone +43 6414 207.

PS: Towels, sauna towels, slippers and bathrobes are available to you free of charge during your stay.

What are the cancellation conditions?

  • Up to 4 weeks before departure: free of charge
  • Up to 2 weeks before departure: 50% of the total trip price
  • Up to 1 week before departure: 70 % of the total trip price
  • In the final week before departure: 90 % of the total trip price
Otherwise, the general rules of the Austrian Hotel Regulations apply. A booking is a contract of sale. In the event of cancellation, late arrival or early departure, cancellation fees will apply. For this reason, we recommend that you take out travel insurance. Insurance is affordable and it can potentially save you a lot of hassle and stress.

Error in pricing or booking processing?

Please note that despite careful examination, errors in pricing or booking processing may occur. We reserve the right to cancel bookings in the case of obvious price errors or booking mistakes made by the hotel. However, we will make every effort to avoid such situations and resolve them as fairly and transparently as possible should they occur.

Is the Alte Post wheelchair-accessible?

All hotel areas are barrier-free, one room is wheelchair-accessible. We would be happy to advise you personally, please call us on +43 6414 207.
